Day 1414: Monday, March 16th

I post this with a heavy heart.

Texas A&M football legendBilly Pickard, Class of ’56, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Monday March 9, at the age of 81.  I had the privilege and pleasure to work forand know Mr. Pickard, an amazing man.

To keep your character intact you cannot stoop to filthy acts. It makes it easier to stoop the next time.
~ Katharine Hepburn

I decided to post on Mondays instead of Thursdays.  I believe that will help me be more consistent.  We shall see.  Also I'm not numbering this week.

Health...
If you don't think your anxiety, depression, sadness and stress impact your physical health, think again. All of these emotions trigger chemical reactions in your body, which can lead to inflammation and a weakened immune system. Learn how to cope, sweet friend. There will always be dark days. ”~ Kris Carr

“It isn’t enough to love, we must prove it.” ~ St. Therese of Lisieux, Story of a Soul

Words are like magic, when cast over someone, they have the extraordinary power of influence. They can  speak life or death; they can encourage or destroy.

Day 1382: Thursday, Feb 12th

Thursday, February 12, 2015
Week 2 of the journey! My goal is 52 posts this calendar year.  Will be figuring out titles and day of my life numbers as I go.
1) Got my free Page-a-day calendar online.  This is the one I really wanted to have in print but couldn’t find once they went on sale.  Glad to have it this way.
2) Love me some Amy Poehler.  Currently reading her book: Yes, Please! She makes me think and laugh out loud often at the same time.
 3) This bullshit is really pissing me off.  Someone in my second period could die prematurely of unnatural causes.  Just saying…

Teachers, There is an App that students are using to emulate the projector remote, this allows them to turn the projector on and off. If this is happening that is the cause unless you are getting a “lamp time error” msg on the screen. ~ Esmond

4) I really enjoy Austin Kleon.  I will probably highlight his stuff often.  You can find him here.  Love his books Show Your Work and Steal like an Artist and I highly recommend them.  He has a weekly newsletter you can subscribe to here.

5)    “Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. ” ― Mahatma Gandhi

While this isn't the most narratively structured book, it is full of amazing quotes and anecdotes. I particularly liked Kareem Abdul Jabbar's description of Wooden as being against passion. It's in line with what I have been thinking about a lot recently. Good for a quick read, and like I said, lots of great lines in here from Wooden, from his father, and from players like Kareem, Bill Walton and others. If you liked The Education of a Coach, this would be a good one to follow it up with.   ~Ryan Holiday

7) Check out Sport Without Balls.  This week was fabulous. Also love this drawing of Erin all done up in her Giants gear.  I'm slightly obsessed with this podcast at the moment.  Check it out at All Things Comedy.

Day 1375: Thursday, February 5th 2015

Thursday, February 5th:
Here I am finally beginning this journey.  I really want to blog for me.  So I am beginning.  Every Thursday…

1)   I ignored my personal email over the Christmas break.  Now I’m dealing with that.  I have over 3500 emails in AOL.  Probably be sharing a lot of that this week.
2)  I got bored being a pirate last week.  I know inconceivable!  I begin playing Assassin’s Creed III again from the beginning.  I really hate the opening stuff until you get to be Connor.  Just saying…  I have achieved 25% synconization as Connor at this point this week.
3)  I’m babysitting this coming Saturday night for Tiff.  Third weekend in a row I’ve
been out to their new place.  Turns out my tablet makes a great babysitter.  Just have to deal with the tiny guy.
4) Sports without balls is an awesome podcast done by Erin Foley.  I’ve been listening to the older ones I missed the first time around.  I have been thoroughly entertained.  “We said Goodbye and I ran him over in my car.”  ~ EF
5) Sweeties Reunion in Cozumel in September.  I like it.  Going to look into this see if it is still an option.  Shannon sent the email in Nov.  I just got it.  If it’s meant to be, it will happen.
6) Page-A-Day Calendars are fun.  I like never really looked at the 1000 places to see before you die one I got last year but I have a new free one coming.  TBA.
7) I’m so over deflate-gate.  “I’m going to be point blank, I feel like it’s cheating.  Because you have an edge up on your opponent and its unfortunate that it happened.” ~ Jerry Rice
With or without the stickum or the gloves, Rice still would have been the greatest receiver of all time.  But, as he said regarding the Patriots, he still had an edge.

8) Love me some FlyLady!  Need to get back to basics with her.
9) I don't like making plans for the day: because then the word "premeditated" get's thrown around in the courtroom

10) Borrow a kid. Spend some time trying to see through their eyes. You will discover new things.
11) Peyton Manning resumes workouts!  Yea!  Please come back Peyton.  YOU can do it.  One More!!
